Summary: In [this post], I asked people to comment with a question for Angel. Here are some of my favorite questions with Angel's answers - just so you don't have to go through that post and expand all the threads to see what was said. Thanks to everyone who participated! And if you're late to the party, you can still hop on over to that post and ask a question if you want to.

*

Why hockey?
What was the first motion picture you saw, and how did you react to it?
Where did you learn to drive a car?
Are you nostalgic for anything? What?

Why hockey? Because... I like it. I mean, why not hockey? It's fast, competitive, unpredictable. And the players are obviously passionate about what they do. These guys, they'll throw punches over a bad call. --Not that I'm necessarily condoning violence, not against other humans, but it's refreshing to watch people who care so much about something that they'll risk their teeth over it, even if it isn't all that important in the long run.

Anyway, the games are usually at night.

My first movie... wow, that was a long time ago. Had to have been, what, 1915? It was called "The Birth of a Nation." I thought for a while that movies were just a fad, so I didn't really pay much attention to them until that one came out. But then I kept hearing about it, you know? People just kept talking about it. So I finally went. And yeah, I was impressed. But I still like the theater better. Real theater, I mean.

The first time I ever drove a car was in Chicago in 1927. It was one of those old Model T's. I'd always wanted to try it, just never had the opportunity, so I... took one. Stole it, I guess. It was just sitting there outside this club, and I was drunk, so... Hey, I'm not proud of it. Didn't last very long, anyway. I sort of wrecked it a couple blocks away from the street where I found it.

I do get nostalgic sometimes. Not for anything specific, really... but things used to be simpler than they are now. Easier. I don't have anything against technology - you can't, if you have to plan for an eternity - but every now and then I kind of wish I didn't have to get some twenty-something human to explain to me how to do something, you know?

I can't believe Angel waited until '27 to try driving...

Oh, believe me, I would have tried it earlier if I'd had the chance. Love driving. It makes me feel... free. I guess that sounds pretty stupid, huh? But there's nothing like getting in a really fast car and just taking off somewhere, leaving everything else behind. And when you're behind the wheel, you're in total control. Can go as fast as you want, whatever direction you want... Not like with a horse. Horses have a mind of their own, you know? They can throw you, make you look stupid. But a car... you get the right one, and you can go anywhere.

Where'd you get your tattoo?

The tattoo. That would be Japan, 1833. I'd just read this book called "Suikoden," and all the characters have these big tattoos. They're called irezumi. Mentioned it to Darla, and she said she'd like to see Japan, so we went. She wanted me to get a tiger design, but I liked this better. Got it done in nara black, because it turns blue under the skin and that was Darla's favorite color. I'd been planning to get it filled in, but then we ended up killing the artist, and I just never went and had it finished.

So... what about "that one time"?

What one time?

Who was a better kisser? Cordelia or Buffy? Drusilla or Darla?

They were all the best while I was kissing them. But once someone gets in your heart, you can't really compare them to anyone else - even the other people in your heart.

You've had both so you can settle the debate over who has more fun: blondes or brunettes?

I don't think hair color has much to do with how much fun someone has. But, contrary to popular belief, I've been known to have some fun every now and then - healthy fun, I mean, not like torture and murder - so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say brunettes.

1.What was the most gratifying aspect of becoming a parent?
2.Under what circumstances would you have stayed with Nina?
3. When it comes to Kate, what is your biggest regret?
4. Who's the better fighter: Buffy or Faith?

1. Everything. Can I say that? Having a child is like... it's like your heart is outside of your body and you can see it for the first time. It's knowing that every moment of your life has just been leading up to this perfect thing that you can hold in your arms and cherish and take care of. Having someone that needs you so completely, that relies on you... it makes you feel so small, and at the same time like the biggest, most important person on earth.

2. If I hadn't decided to take on the Black Thorn... I think I could have stayed with Nina for a very long time. Until she didn't want me anymore.

3. Kate and I parted on good terms. If I did have any regrets about her, it would most likely involve not being truthful from the beginning about who I was. But I don't generally wear my "I'm a vampire; ask me how" button for people when I first meet them, and it tends to be an awkward subject to bring up later on in a relationship.

4. Buffy fights with her heart. Faith fights with her fists. And they can both kick my ass. I know that's not really an answer, but it's not really a question either. They're both the slayer. It's like asking which hurts more - having your right hand cut off or having your left hand cut off. (Although I suppose if anyone's qualified to answer that question, it would be Spike.)

-What is the piece of advice you would have given Spike re: getting a soul?
-What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
-Have you ever watched any Disney movies? If so, what was your favorite?

If Spike had told me he was planning to win his soul, I wouldn't have believed him. Anyway, there's really nothing anyone could say to prepare someone for the guilt they're in for once they get their soul back after being evil. Of course, I could give him plenty of advice about it now - how to manage the guilt, how to relieve built-up aggression, that sort of thing - but he... appears to be getting along fine without any help from me. Which is... good.

Cookie dough fudge mint chip. I also like chocolate. And coffee. And Cherry Garcia. But I don't eat much ice cream.

I defy anyone to watch Old Yeller and not cry like a baby.

1. You've had sex with Spike. Don't bother denying that. But my question is how do you feel about having sex with him now, with you both being all soul-having?
2. When you sent Lorne with Lindsey with the order to kill him, was part of you still peeved about him posing as Doyle?
3. Buffy loves Spike. Spike loves Buffy. Your thoughts on this and their chances if they ever meet up?
4. Connors a young man now, but what do you think you missed most about his upbringing.
5. If you could go back in time, would you have killed Justine when you had the chance?
6. Wesley's hot. Do you want him?

1. There's no way you could possibly know that. Unless... did Spike say something to you? I refuse to answer this question.

2. No part of me will ever not be peeved at Lindsey for that.

3. I wish the best for Buffy in everything. Which is why she should be with anyone but Spike.

4. Everything. But mostly the chance to raise him with the love and understanding that Holtz wasn't capable of. I tried to give him that when I made the deal to take over Wolfram and Hart.

5. If I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, I would have a good long talk with Wesley about a certain false prophesy. I think that would accomplish the same thing without having to kill a human. But if killing her were my only choice, then yes. I'd do it.

6. Whoa there, tiger. Back up. What?

I saaaayed...Wesley is HOT! With those stark blue eyes all poodly and full of yearning and that stubborn jaw, jutting out at you defiantly when he's pissed about your being obtuse.

Don't tell me you haven't noticed. Soul is a cage, not a blindfold.

Now...Answer.The.Question.

Wesley's an attractive man - I'm not saying he isn't. You just kind of... caught me off guard there. But I can honestly say I've never thought his eyes were, uh... poodly.

Please don't make me think about this anymore.

Angel darling, what do you really think about Lindsey's singing??

Lindsey McDonald wouldn't know good music if it bit into his jugular and drained him dry. I mean, his voice is all over the place - rock, country, ballad... what's with that? Give me Manilow any day over that whiney lawyer crap. You know, Elvis, Neil Diamond. They're the real thing. Not Lindsey McfreakinDonald. Please.

So, what exactly do you like about Spikes poetry?

Just so we're clear - I don't think Spike's poems had any actual literary merit. The reason I liked them... was because of the feeling behind them. If he felt strongly about something, then he wrote it down. I admired his self-expression, the fact that he felt compelled to create something he thought was beautiful. The words didn't matter; it was the creative force that I found fascinating, the depth of his emotion. Reading his poems was like getting inside his head for a little while, looking out through his eyes. Like he stripped himself completely bare before the world and invited critique of his insides. That sort of thing takes courage.

The poems themselves were pretty awful, though.

You said you had no problem spanking men. Was that a theoretical statement?

Oh, the spanking comment. Heh. That was just... I mean, people dwell on that scene, but really I was only making a joke. Because I was about to hit the guy with a paddle, you know? I didn't mean like, actually spanking men. ...You get that, right?

If it were absolutely necessary (I don't know why, but let's say it was the only way to save all of humanity) for you to have sex with one of the males in your life who would it be? Do you think you could enjoy it and if you did would you be man enough to admit to him or to anyone else?

Gay sex to save the world? Sometimes I wish it were that easy. --Not that I swing that way, because I obviously don't, but one awkward encounter seems like a small price to pay in exchange for every human life on earth. I suppose if my... partner... had to be someone I knew, then I'd pick someone who would be professional about it. Not professional like... a professional... but someone who would understand that it was only happening because the world was at stake and who would be willing to do whatever it took to save it. Someone who would also be able to forget it ever happened, or at least wouldn't let it affect our relationship. Someone like... Wesley. Wesley would get it. It would be weird, but I think he'd understand. And be willing.

Would I enjoy it? Well, like I said, it wouldn't be my preference. But who doesn't enjoy sex? I doubt I'd ever mention it, though.

Now I'm wondering if you assumed with that question that your position in that little scenario would be to top the other guy. Would your answer be any different if the requirement was that you would be the... uhm... bottom? And do you still think you could enjoy it?

Oh. I guess I just assumed you meant... but no, that shouldn't change anything. Well. Maybe, if Drogyn were still alive, I would choose him. Just, you know, to cut down on the akward factor since we hardly ever crossed paths, but... since he's not, then I'd still choose Wes.

I'm going to stop thinking about this now.

Most men tend to run through their previous sexual encounters in their head while masturbating (especially those who aren't particularly internet porn savvy). Since Eve is one of your previous partners, do you ever think about her/fantasize about her as you masturbate?

No. Jesus. I've been trying to repress that memory for months.

Is there any famous person that you have known that no would guess you've met? If so, what was your impression of them?

I don't think... Santa Claus, maybe?

I didn't like him.

so, that whole time you had to suck up and let Wesley be in charge, what were you *really* thinking?

Atonement's a bitch?

Actually, it wasn't that bad working for Wesley. And it wasn't so much working for as working with. Or maybe working near. He didn't make me call him Mr. Wyndham-Price or anything.

1. Boxers or briefs? Enquiring minds want to know.

2. What is it about Barry Manilow's music that you find so appealing? Please be specific.

1. Um... heh. I don't actually... I mean, usually I don't... unless the, uh, situation calls for... um. I mean. Boxers?

2. It's easy to listen to. The words tell a story, and the music's pretty. Plus, it's deep. If you'd ever heard "Early Morning Strangers" then you wouldn't need to ask me why I like Manilow.

Why, Angel? Why did you make Lorne Lindsey's murderer? After Lindsey had agreed to work for you? It just seems... it was a cold act, Angel.

Yeah, it was cold. I admit it. It was as cold as resurrecting a 400-year-old vampire and using her to get to me. It was as cold as impersonating a dead hero and manipulating another champion to distract me while the world goes to hell with no one to stop it.

Do you honestly think Lindsey McDonald could change? I gave him two chances, and he failed both times. How long before he would turn on me again? You have to understand that I couldn't let that happen. Yeah, it was a hard decision to make. I wish I could have given him another chance. Hell, I wish I'd tried harder to help him the first time he came to me wanting out. But he's proven what kind of person he is, and when you're in a war, sometimes you have to make the hard calls.

Lindsey knew what he was risking when he came back to my city.

So yeah, cold. But necessary.

Apart from Connor, who would you say has been your greatest love?

All love is great. Whether it's passionate, epic, comfortable, or fleeting... if you love someone, you don't judge that love against your love for someone else.

I... hope that makes sense.

Is there anything you've done while you've had the soul that you regret even nearly as bad as things you did without a soul?

Sometimes I think having a soul makes the bad things I do now worse, because now I have a choice. I don't know if you heard about this, but a few years ago I actually locked some people in a wine cellar with two of the most vicious vampires in history - while I still had my soul. They were bad people, but they didn't deserve what I did to them. I think if I ever finish atoning for what I did while I was evil, then I'll have to start over and atone for the things I did while I was supposed to be good.

What would you say if a man had a serious desire to make Spike his lover and there was a chance Spike might be seriously interested?

Congratulations?

But I seriously, seriously doubt that would ever happen. I mean, men have hit on Spike before (he doesn't like to talk about it, but I've seen it happen - more than once) and he gets pretty freaked out about it. I think it's kinda funny, though.

What do you think of Cordelia overall and what made her different (special) from everyone else?

I loved Cordelia. She was my best friend. The way she would just... say things, you know? Whatever she was thinking, whatever was in her head, right then, that's what you'd get. It was just so... refreshing, I guess. I needed that kind of honesty in my life, and she was perfectly happy to give it to me - whether I asked for it or not. And I felt like she really knew me. Knew what was going on inside. You couldn't hide anything from her, not anything, and... I guess it got to a point where I didn't even want to. You'd probably just have to know her to really get what I mean. But. She was... amazing. I really miss her.

How did you feel when you found out that Spike had died?

Spike and I hadn't really had a close relationship for a long time. I mean, any time someone in your family dies, there's going to be a certain sense of loss, but... the last time we'd really interacted with each other, he'd tortured me with pokers. So when I found out about his death, I can't say I was exactly crying myself to sleep at night, you know? But yeah, there was a... sadness. And respect. He died in battle, and that's not something to take lightly.

But then of course he came back. Pretty much ruined the effect.

1. What was it like meeting Baudeliare?

2. What are the things about Connor that remind you of Darla the most?

3. How many Barry Manilow concerts have you been to? Be honest.

1. Like meeting a drunk guy in a bar. I wasn't too impressed with him, to be honest, but Darla liked him. Said he was eccentric. I thought he was kind of ridiculous.

2. This will probably sound weird, but... his hands. The size, shape, strength of them. He has Darla's hands.

3. Four Manilow concerts. He does a great show. Better than the Osmonds.

What is your favorite thing about being a Vampire?

Well... being strong is pretty cool. And being, you know, immortal.

When Nina asked, "Where did you learn to do that?" and you replied, "Which part?" that definitely got my attention. Can you tell me what you did to her that you think impressed her so with your skills as a lover?

Oh. Um. Well, I try to be, you know, attentive. And. I've always encouraged feedback, so I'll really know what makes my partner... um. You know.

Sorry, I'm just... not really comfortable with this question.

You generally have extremely good fashion sense, very classic, yet you have no reflection (I won't mention the 70s mullet... it was a bad era for taste overall). How do you manage to do keep your look pulled together so well?

Thank you. I try to keep up with current styles so I don't come across as being... old. But I also try to keep it simple. Nothing too risque. Dark, solid colors. A lot of black. Everyone looks good in black.

How did you come into possession of your favorite broadsword?

Ebay.

In your pre-bitten days you had Daddy issues, you were a bit of a drunken lout, you lacked direction and were easy pickins for a vamp like Darla. Why? Why did it take being undead and resouled to value life?

I know what Spike would say, but seriously, what do you say?

Jesus. Don't hold back on my account.

I don't know, I guess it's like... people who have near-death experiences. When they find out they have a second chance, they try their hardest to make the most of it. It's like they finally realize what life is worth, how precious it is. Well, this is my second chance. I'm living it right now, and... I don't want to waste it. I just want to do what's right.

And it's not that I didn't value life when I was human. It just... wasn't something I put much thought into.

Clearly, from what we've seen, doing what's right has become vital to you, and it often comes at a great price to you, personally. There is a strong sense of atonement in your choices since you were resouled. Do you believe atonement is possible?

"And it's not that I didn't value life when I was human. It just... wasn't something I put much thought into."

If you had a chance to speak with yourself back then, what would you say? Do you think there is anything you could say that would have changed ... anything?

I don't know if atonement is possible, but I do know that people can try. And when it comes down to it, trying is all that matters. Trying to change. Trying to help people. Not giving up. If I died today, then no, I don't think I'd have achieved atonement - but I can content myself with the knowledge that I tried.

If I didn't have that, then I wouldn't have anything.

If I could speak to myself as a human... I don't know what I'd say. Kill Holtz when you get the chance? If you meet a seer in a convent, don't turn her? ...A mustache is a bad idea? Nah, I don't think saying something would change anything. I'd probably just buy myself a drink, maybe tell me to get a tan while I still could.

This is brilliant. All of it, just...brilliant. I really think your Angel-voice is one of the best out there.

And now, Girlpire, I have questions for you!

1. When the delicious couch!Angel in the banner showed up at your house to respond to these questions (as is obviously what happened), did you jump him?
1a. If not, did you attempt to jump him?
1b. If not, did you at least stare at him a bunch?
2. How did he smell? Like manly awesomeness, yes?

Inquiring minds want to know :P

What a diplomatic...and lovely...answer.

For obvious reasons, this makes me really happy. *g*

The best part of this is that you answered all the questions without any particular slant- I mean, if *I* had answered it would have been impossible for me to keep my B/A crap out of the equation...so I commend you for answering these honestly...as Angel himself might have answered.

that angel. he's such a diplomat. :D i imagine him being very discreet when talking about his love life - unless he's talking to someone like spike, in which case he'd use a lot more innuendo regarding buffy and dru, just to make spike jealous. because he can be petty like that. *luffs him*

i actually struggled with some of the answers so my own favorite pairings wouldn't be terribly obvious (angel/darla, angel/spike). i have angel pretty much denying or evading questions that have to do with spikesex because i think that's how he'd really be, but i'm perfectly happy to ship spangel when it comes to fic.

ebay! really! i thought it was funny. :D and angel orders some stuff for connor online, so i figured he'd know how to do it...

to be honest, i had written a couple paragraphs about some kind of demon attacking angel with the sword and then angel took it from him and killed the demon, and then i erased that and made up something about angel king arthuring it out of a stone because i was amused by the idea, but then, while i was typing, my mom came in with a box of angel figures for me from ebay, and i took it as a sign. :D

bah, don't read the threads. it's about the typos, man. angel makes far fewer typos in the compilation post. (plus i think i dropped character a couple times.)

thanks for hearting my brain! it feels good.

This is made of awesome. You really put thought into the character and answering AS the character. Though I was irritated at how slippery and evade-y Angel was as, oh, half the commentors tried to finagle spangel admissions out of him. Heeee!

This was brilliant! You had Angel down perfectly!

I run Scribes of Angel, (http://scribes.darkstarfic.com/) which is mostly hand-picked fanfic but sometimes I archive other things of interest there as Specials. (As long as it's Angel-related.) Could I copy this for Scribes, please? I will happily add a link to your original post if you'd like?

I have also friended you, if that's okay. I don't know if you would allow me to use some fiction of yours but I would always ask first. You're under no obligation to friend back - I'm not very interesting. But I *do* write Angel, and some naked Angel on occasion….

i'm so glad you liked it! angel is my favorite character, so i think i put more work into getting his voice right than any other character.

i'm very flattered that you'd like this for scribes - that was one of the first archives i found when i entered fandom, and i like it a lot. but i'm not having any of my fic archived anywhere but livejournal at this time. i really appreciate the offer though! it's exciting that anyone would like my writing enough to even ask. :) thank you!
