Yes, I'm indexing my report. I know that my con reports get super long, and it's really tedious to read the whole thing if you're not interested in all of the fandoms that I am, so I'm just going to make a quick list about what each post has in it so you can decide what parts you want to read, if any. And I do these ridiculously long reports primarily for my own benefit because I like to go back and read them and reminisce, so this index is as much for my information as for anyone else's. :)

Of course, the best way to experience this is to read straight through (each post has a link to the next one) and just skim over the parts you're not interested in. But of course I would say that since I wrote it.

[Part One]
1. Relevant Pre-con information: my costume and the dolls I crocheted for Misha Collins and Brent Spiner.
2. Thursday: Checking into the Hyatt and registering for the con.
3. Friday: Costume Pictures (my genderswap experience)
4. William Shatner Panel
5. Back to the Future Panel with Christopher Lloyd and James Tolkan
6. Being Human (US) Panel with Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath
7. Around-the-con Stuff
8. Eureka/Warehouse 13 Panel with Colin Ferguson, Eddie McClintock, Chris Gauthier, Jordan Hinson, and Kevin Grazier

[Part Two]
1. Star Trek: The Next Generation Panel with Brent Spiner and Gates McFadden
2. WKRP in Cincinatte Panel with Howard Hesseman and Loni Anderson
3. More Around-the-con Stuff
4. My funniest con story ever (with zombies!)
5. Saturday: my photo with Misha Collins
6. My photo with Bill Shatner
7. The D*C Parade
8. Star Wars Panel with Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew (and... Jango Fett?)
9. Dollhouse Panel with Tahmoh Penikett and Eliza Dushku
10. Supernatural Panel with Misha Collins, Samantha Ferris and Julie McNiven
11. Giving Misha his doll/getting his autograph

[Part Three]
1. True Blood Panel with Joe Manganiello, Jim Parrack, Denis O'Hare, Kristin Bauer, and Charlaine Harris
2. Giving Brent Spiner his doll/getting his autograph
3. More Around-the-con Stuff.
4. The Jonathan Coulton Concert
5. Scottish Panel with Diana Gabaldon
6. The Stargate/Star Trek crossover carnival
7. Zombie Film Festival
8. Sunday: Our True Blood photos with Jim and Joe
9. True Blood Panel with Jim, Joe, Denis, Kristin, and Charlaine
10. Being Human (US) Panel with Sam, Meaghan, and Sam Witwer
11. Eureka Panel with Colin, Jordan, Chris, Kevin, and Wil Wheaton
12. Sanctuary Panel with Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, and Christopher Heyerdahl
13. Buffy Panel with James Marsters, Nicholas Brendan, Mercedes McNab, Clare Kramer, Julie Benz, and Eliza Dushku
14. Supernatural Panel with Misha, Samantha, and Jim Beaver
15. Even More Around-the-con stuff, including Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus

[Part Four]
1. Around-the-con Stuff, including costume pictures and a BSG panel
2. The Masquerade, Stand-up Nerd Comedy, Free drinks, Embarrassing my mom
3. Monday: Stargate panel (best panel of the whole con!)
4. Meeting David Nykl
5. Meeting David Blue and Louis Ferreira
6. Meeting Howard Hesseman
7. Checking out the Dealer Rooms, more Around-the-con Stuff, my donut trance
8. Wrap-up

I tried to write about all of it in an interesting way, so I do hope you'll check some of it out. But please be aware: ALL four of the posts are extremely picture-heavy (and some have embedded videos and links) so if you're on dial-up (is anyone still on dial-up?) you may have significant loadification issues!

I’m FINALLY finished writing this thing. Yowza. It’s not quite as comprehensive as my previous reports because I pretty much refused to write anything down while it was happening, relying instead on the powers of memory and youtube to recount the experience. But the highlights are there. (I think?) Read this if you wanna know exactly what it’s like to dress up as a man and go conventioning with my mother and sister. I’ve included very brief reviews of the panels we attended, as well as my conversations with a few minor celebrities and drunken congoers. This may be of particular interest to fans of Stargate, Star Trek, and Supernatural, but MANY fandoms are mentioned.

My reports from previous cons can be found here:
[FX Show 2006] (This one is flocked.)
[Dragon*Con 2006]
[FX Show 2007]
[Dragon*Con 2007]
[FX Show 2008]
[Dragon*Con 2008]
I never posted my Dragon*Con 2009 report! But the most important thing that happened is [here].
[Dragon*Con 2010]

Dragon*Con 2011
in which Jen sprouts facial hair, impresses Misha Collins with her mad crochet skillz, has her second date with Bill Shatner, and accidentally attends Zombie Prom. But not all at once.

Fandoms mentioned in this report: Star Trek TOS, Star Trek TNG, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Doctor Who, Dollhouse, Eureka/Warehouse 13, Trueblood, Supernatural, Being Human (US), WKRP in Cincinatti, Back to the Future, Stargate Universe, Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary, Battlestar Galactica, Boondock Saints, Harry Potter, Doctor Horrible, Outlander, omg I can’t believe I have this many fandoms, let’s get this on.

Image heavy! Run! SAVE YOURSELF!  )

i know dragon*con is already over so i should really be working on my con report right now, but i felt like i ought to finish this whole ronon costume process thing first, since i actually wore it at dragon*con. i, in fact, wore it on the first day of dragon*con, which of course means that when we drove up to atlanta the night before, i was working on it furiously in our hotel room so it would be ready for the next day. because i am a procrastinator, and i procrastinate.

this entry will be how i made the actual outfit and accessories, excluding the [sword] and the [gun], which i already posted about. and also excluding the holster, because i somehow managed to forget to take pictures of every single step of the holster process. sorry about that.

image heavy!

my complete ronon dex costume, yay! )

i know i've said this before, but i'm cosplaying(/crossdressing) as ronon dex from stargate atlantis at dragon*con this year. (OMG IT'S IN TWO DAYS.) so remember when i posted [how i made my ronon sword]? well, this post is about how i made my ronon gun. i thought the sword was complicated, but it was nothing compared to this. here is what the gun is supposed to look like:

aaaaaaaand here is what i started with:

yeah. it took me over a month to make it look right. more pictures under the cut. (this post is image-heavy!)

how i made my ronon gun. )

last year when i was a na'vi from avatar for dragon*con, i did a step-by-step photo album on facebook as i made different parts of the costume. it was kind of fun, so even though my costume this year isn't going to be quite as elaborate, i thought i'd do it again. i just posted the first batch of pictures on facebook, so i thought i'd share them here on lj as well in case anyone is interested. :)

this year, i'm going as ronon dex from stargate atlantis. he looks like this:

ronon is an alien from the planet sateda in the pegasus galaxy. and he is super hot. (i'm trying not to examine the fact that i think he's one of the most attractive men alive and now i want to BE him...) i'm not going to try to costume this exact outfit for d*c, but more of an approximation of the kind of clothes he wears throughout the SGA series. so far, all i've completed is his sword and a couple of necklaces, but i'm super proud of the sword!

cut for how i made the sword. picture heavy! )

Firstly, I want to thank whoever nominated "Friday" for the cover to cover awards. Thanks! Voting's now open on that [here].

And secondly, way after the fact: Here is my Dragon*Con report. I was hoping to keep it short this year - one or two posts instead of my usual 4 - so I didn't take as many notes as I usually do, and I only wrote them down afterward, not during. The idea was that my sieve-like memory would weed out some of the less important details if I didn't have them all written down. DIDN'T WORK. Report is still three posts long and chock full of all the stuff you didn't want to know. Because who even cares about what everyone said at every panel, right? THE IMPORTANT THING IS PICTURES. ...right?

My reports from previous cons can be found here:
[FX Show 2006] (This one is flocked.)
[Dragon*Con 2006]
[FX Show 2007]
[Dragon*Con 2007]
[FX Show 2008]
[Dragon*Con 2008]
My Dragon*Con 2009 report never ended up posted publically! But the most important thing that happened from that is [here].

Now, without further ado, I hereby present:

Dragon*Con 2010
in which Jen falls hopelessly in love with Paul McGillion, receives sage advice from Luke Perry, paints herself blue, is not nearly as funny as she thinks she is but at least she is accurate, and tries to understand her sister's crush on Scott Bakula. And also other stuff happened.

(Fandoms discussed in this report include: Stargate Atlantis, True Blood, Heroes, Star Trek [Enterprise and Voyager], Battlestar Galactica, Avatar, I Dream of Jeannie [seriously], Quantum Leap, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Doctor Horrible's Sing-along Blog, among others. Be advised that there are spoilers for some of these - SGA in particular - and I haven't warned separately.)

( Good grief, this post is seriously picture-heavy. )

expect a full report as soon as i can manage it. (grad school is hard.)

Oh god. I just finished editing and uploading my pictures from this year's D*C, and I can already tell my report is gonna be LONG and PICTURE-HEAVY. You may want to sit down for it. (Because I know you people stand at your computers... which I find pretty weird. Why do you do that, anyway?)

I took 29 pages of handwritten notes as well, including snippets of quotes from panels, so - if I can manage to decipher my writing - be warned that this report will contain SPOILERS for such shows as Battlestar Galactica and... well, mostly just Battlestar Galactica. But isn't that enough? Other spoilers will be marked as we come to them. Also, there is much squee over Gareth David Lloyd and Tahmoh Penikett, among others.

Fandoms covered by this report: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Dollhouse, Torchwood, and Battlestar Galactica, with special appearances by Lord of the Rings, Heroes, and Lost, and very brief cameos by Harry Potter and Smallville.

Undoubtedly, I am leaving something out. But hey, that's part of the fun of con reports! Surprises! ...Right?

Let's do this thang.

Lock and load.

Remember: SPOILERS. At some point. You have been warned. )

FX Show 2008! I went!

Here lies a con report in which Jen gets “We Need a Little Christmas” stuck in her head, speculates over the size of Nathan Fillion’s other parts in relation to his nose, falls hopelessly in love with Greg Grunberg, eats a bowl of fruit, meets with Nicholas Brendan in secret, and sort of resents Kinkos for charging by the minute. Not necessarily in that order.

Yay con!

The following contains a few spoilers for aired episodes of Heroes and Desperate Housewives, so be sure you've either seen it all or don't care before you read further. My apologies to dialers-up for the image-heavy post. Oh, and I apologize for some of the pictures being fuzzy. Okay, ready?

Okay.

Okay y'all, here it is: my report for Dragon*Con 2007 in Atlanta. Finally. Prepare to be both amused and horrified by turns.

Oh, and there are lots of pretty pictures, videos, and links, so before I get started, my apologies to dialers-up. Now, everyone ready?

Lock and load.

Atlanta is so my bitch. )

Okay, I went to a convention a couple of weeks ago (January 26-28) and have just now gotten around to doing a con report. Why? Because I am lame. So although I'm sure no one is interested this long afterwards, here is my report for the 2007 FX Show in Orlando, Florida.

This is the second year that I've attended this particular convention, and I gotta say, I had a lot of fun. More fun than last year, even. So dialers-up, beware. There are pictures and videos like whoa beneath the cut - as well as mild spoilers if you haven't seen Eureka or Heroes. And a big spoiler if you haven't seen Serenity. But if you haven't seen Serenity, what are you doing reading this? Get yourself to a TV, stat! Also, all the videos are embedded from Youtube, but for some reason I'm having trouble playing them. (It could just be my computer.) If you have trouble playing them from this post, just click on the player and it will take you to the Youtube page where you can watch it, and they all play just fine from there.

Here we go. :)

In which our heroine (girlpire) meets Shepherd Book, Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, Sheriff Jack Carter, Veronica Mars, Jayne Cobb (Marcus Hamilton), spundone, spankspike, and Claire Bennett (the cheerleader). )
