okay, i don't really know what i'm doing... i wanted to write a sequel to Breakable, so i started on it, and it's turning into a chaptery thing, which isn't what i wanted. but i guess if it goes alright, i'll continue it. here is the first part of the sequel, which i'm calling "broken" for reasons of laziness, and because i think it sounds good to follow "breakable" with "broken." logical, am i right?

Breakable

She looked at herself in the mirror again, calmly putting one strand of dark hair behind her ear. Thin. She'd been too thin even before she'd spent five years starving in a hell dimension. The last year and a half, she'd eaten like a hog to make up for it, but nothing seemed to stick. Doomed to live her entire life with practically no breasts. She smoothed her tank top over her chest. Fragile.

That's how they saw her. Too easily broken. Charles, with his frustratingly gentle hands, scared to hurt her. Wesley, constantly raking his eyes over her body but still too afraid to touch her. With his new tough-guy attitude, she thought maybe he'd imagined taking her roughly, but he would never do it. Probably not even if she asked him to.

( And she'd thought about it, about asking Wesley to hurt her. )

Review from the Forbidden Awards: --Why did I choose Broken? Because it shouldn't have worked. The pairing of Angelus and Fred should strike the reader as obscene, but girlpire has gorgeously crafted a piece which is simultaneously an AU and a study of characters often neglected. Her Angelus is absolutely evil, but girlpire has imbued him with traits (confusion, impatience, nebulous feeling) which render him almost human, instead of the caricature he becomes in most fanfiction and, frankly, in canon as well. Fred is too often treated as an afterthought, or is not adequately explored as a character in her own right. This Fred is broken, but not destroyed; she has desires which she neither understands nor can voice, but is still able to acknowledge. Broken is a masterful story of an obscure pairing which is more authentic and heartfelt than many canonical couplings.

Review from the Forbidden Awards: Broken by girlpire is what happens when a brilliant author takes an unconventional coupling to its extreme and effortlessly manages to enthrall the audience into welcoming and rooting for the wrongness. Fred is the most realized she has ever been - in either canon or fanfiction. Angelus is as multilayered as fans always believed him to be, but whose character was too often ignored for the purpose of the easy evil. Simply. The. Best.
