Summary: After the death of his last human friend, Spike travels halfway across the world looking for the only person he still knows. When he arrives at Angel's last known address in a small village in Cambodia, he finds an audio recording that details the last two years of Angel's life. But where is Angel?

Author's Notes: This story was written for spring_spangel, 2008. It is set about seventy years post-NFA, but disregards both the AtS and BtVS comics - meaning that the whole Rome thing in TGiQ is canon. Because that is how I occasionally roll. Also, dialogue in italics means that it is spoken in a language other than English. You should be able to tell from the context what language the characters are speaking (probably either Khmer or French).

I've been searching for Spangel stories and, after discovering some of your stuff on AO3, I decided to check out your Live Journal. I am absolutely in love with this fic! It makes a lot of sense that Spike would try to seek out Angel once everyone else has died, and I love how you explore their loneliness. I'm also very curious what happened in the 70 years after NFA. Spike ended up staying in Italy, so then did he and Buffy get together? If so why did Spike think of them as "Buffy's kids" instead of "their kids".

I also think Angel's relationship with the kids is so adorable. He's clearly wanted to be a father since before Connor was even born, and I love how he's getting the opportunity to do that in some capacity now. I am, however, deeply worried about what Sann's been saying. I'm really really hoping Angel isn't dead...

I know you wrote these five chapters quite a while ago. Do you have any plans to continue?

Hi, this is such an unexpected surprise! I'm really glad you liked what was going on in this fic. It wasn't meant to imply that Spike and Buffy ever got together in a romantic way, just that he remained a friend of the Summers family until they died. If I were to write out everything that happened in those 70 years, I would have given Spike some different romantic relationships, and I would have done the same for Angel. But probably not many for either of them, because immortals dating mortals will always end tragically.

I have always had plans to continue this story one day - I have so many pages of notes and know exactly how it ends - but right now I'm deep into a spangel WIP called Touch over on AO3 and I won't be doing anything else with this fic until that one is finished. I'm a fairly slow writer, so that may take a long while. When/if it happens, I'll begin posting an edited version of this fic over there but will probably never post it here on Livejournal.

Oh, I 'm so happy to hear that you haven't forgotten about this story! It's funny, Touch was the story I read over on AO3 that made me go looking for your LiveJournal. So I guess I have a lot to look forward to from you!
