some of you may remember the [castiel doll] i crocheted a few months ago. i was so proud of him! well. i finished a similar project today that i am even prouder of than castiel. (mainly because he can stand up and castiel can't.) allow me to present, straight from stitchgate atlantis...

colonel yarn sheppard.

the colonel features pointy ears and crazy hair...

...a watch, a wristband, and a thigh holster...

...and comes complete with a removable tac vest and a gun that fits in the holster!
he is carrying extra yarn in his pockets, of course.

here is a close-up of the gun in the holster.

the whole outfit.

pointy ears! heh. i cracked myself up making those. and i couldn't get his hair to do exactly what i wanted it to, but i guess that's appropriate. :)

from the back.

this is a photo reference of him wearing the same outfit but without the vest and thigh holster.
the reason sheppard can stand up and castiel can't is because i modified the way i did the shoes. castiel's are round while i made sheppard's flat on the bottom, centered, and with a "toe" section that sticks out further from the rest of the shoe to give him more balance. they both have beany feet, hands, and butts. their bodies are the same size, but sheppard's head is a little bit smaller because i forgot to write down how i did castiel's (and then i covered it with hair so i couldn't count the stitches) but i think sheppard's hair makes up for his head being small. :)
colonel yarn sheppard was entirely constructed with a size G crochet hook and red heart super saver yarn - except for his eyes, which were made with an E hook and caron simply soft yarn. he was stuffed with polyfil and unpopped popcorn kernels.
i am going to meet joe flanigan (who plays sheppard on stargate atlantis) at dragon*con this year, and i was thinking about taking the doll and having my picture made with both of them. i have the same option with misha collins (who plays castiel), but i haven't decided yet if it's creepy of me to do that or not. also, i'm going to be dressed in drag as ronon from sga and it might be sga overkill if i am also carrying a sheppard doll around? although it would be cute for ronon to carry a sheppard doll everywhere he went. :) maybe i should make the whole team.
also, i've been watching star trek tng lately, and brent spiner is going to be at d*c, so i was thinking of making a data doll, since data is my favorite character. i think it would be super cute.

Date: 2011-08-13 02:59 am (UTC)Also, the Castiel doll is not creepy, I am sticking to this since otherwise the fact I was able to give my favorite VA the previously mentioned stuffed Dalek would also be creepy, and that is no good.
You must make a Data doll, because that could possibly be the cutest thing ever.

Date: 2011-08-13 08:08 am (UTC)I wish I knew how to make something like this. I do have some crochet skills but they don't extend this far. I wouldn't even know how to start this.

Date: 2011-08-13 06:05 pm (UTC)stuffed animals and dolls are super easy to crochet. if you know how to do the "single crochet" stitch (usually the first stitch you learn after learning to make chains) then you can make something round like this. SC is the only stitch i used to make this doll! check out ravelry.com for patterns and directions for stuffed toys if you're interested. there are also lots of youtube tutorials if you wanna see someone crochet "in the round" instead of flat. it's the same sort of way that you would make a hat.

Date: 2011-08-13 10:36 am (UTC)I think you should bring it and have a pic taken with you, Joe and the doll. I don't think it's creepy at all doing that, it just shows appreciation and creativity.
If you think carrying the doll/-s around clashes with your costume or something, I'm sure you could find a nice, worn leather bag that looks like something Ronon would use, and stick the dolls in it! ;)
