Thanks so much for showing interest! I've been writing and I suddenly got concerned that everyone else had left LJ since I last posted any spangel, heh.
What is social media fandom? Is there a big fandom presence on like facebook and twitter? I am completely out of the loop. The only BtVS/AtS fandom stuff I ever really participated in was here on LJ.
I'm not sure about Spangel. But SPN and most other fandoms moved to plattforms like Twitter a few years ago. It's not been for the better, and those crazy fans we were able to quaratine in their own crazy part of fandom in the LJ day's are now the most vocal and visible ones. Boundries have been crossed. It's not pretty.
Oh yikes. If it's anything like arguing over which ships are better (or which vampire is better), I don't want to go anywhere near it! That sort of nonsense is why I left the fandom in the first place. I just want to read/write fic about my favorite characters and that seems like something that would be hard to do in short tweets. Do you know if AO3 is very active? I started an account over there a few days ago and now I feel like I'm wandering around lost.
AO3 is the place to go these day's for fanfiction; they've pretty much become the place to post your fic. Some old places like fanfiction.net still exists, but it's mostly for the old guard. I have a fic journal, but I only post there out of nostalgia, because it feel wrong not to post on LJ. Everyone posts their stories on AO3 these day's, you should too; that's where the readers are. Maybe you should even think of reposting your old work there.
I can understand why Ao3 became the big fic archive. They have a good setup, with being able to search by tags and ratings and fandom - much simpler than trying to find LJ communities and stuff to crosspost, but it does feel a bit less personal. I posted a few old stories there this week just to try it out. I do think I'll put new stuff there, but like you I think I'll post here too. Just because this is where I feel comfortable.
Ugh, just thinking about shipping wars gave me flashbacks. I'm only dipping a toe back into fandom and it would not take much to scare me away again right now, so I'll definitely take your advice and stay away from social media fandom.
This is me. I'm reading replies and only just now figuring everyone is mostly elsewhere, hence the lack of juicy content. I have no idea what AO3 is but I guess I'll need to try and figure it out. But definitely yes on the new Spangel!
I’m so glad you’re still interested! But not sure I understand what you mean about replying through email. I can’t find an email from you. Where did you send it?
I got an email of your comments, so I'm guessing I set for notifications from you in case you posted something new. I replies once to the email and a couple of times directly on your live journal thread, because I wasn't really sure if the email connects to the thread. I'm a complete idiot where social media is concerned!
Oh! Haha, I'm like that too. But I think in the case of Livejournal, notification emails don't connect to anything. Replies end up in the Nothing But Shrimp dimension. :)

Is it Touch? That was 8 years ago. I just reread part 1 but can't get to part 2. Is this the unfinished one?
That’s the one! I figure I can knock it out in a couple more parts, which is why I’m starting with that and not a longer unfinished one. Really just wanted to finish something. I know I had a few thousand words of the next part already written, but I’ve gone through two laptops since then, no idea where to find it, so I started over and got about 5k new words this weekend. It’ll still be a while before I can post though. The second part is linked at the bottom of the first (it’s a public post) and the third is linked from the bottom of the second, but I suggest waiting on a reread until I post the next bit.
Yeah, I definitely recommend starting an AO3. It’s got a very organized system for posting/searching/feedback. I get why it’s popular. I think your stuff would be a great fit. :)
I knew I remembered more to the story than part 1! I'm very excited to read your new segment because I clearly remember wanting more years ago. You're like me, several projects going at once, some left unfinished because the muse has struck elsewhere. Did you finish your MFA? I think you were in the midst of it some years ago, bug I've list touch since.
Yes, way too many projects! And I did finish my MFA. Thanks for asking. :) The students and faculty in my fiction program would be horrified to know I'm revisiting some old fanfic instead of working on my original stuff... which kind of makes me want to write fanfic even more.
Oh lord , I love the humor in the elevator post fight. Sorry, I couldn't resist going on to part two again. Don worry, I can do the rereads of good material ad nauseum. I'm currently rewatching Downton Abbey for the sixth time, and that's more guilty pleasure than actual good.
I'm so glad the story holds up! I've never watched Downton Abbey, but I'm thinking of doing a rewatch of Angel from the beginning again. It's just a bit harder for me to watch now, even though I love it, because everything about it breaks my heart since I know what happens next.
I know exactly what you mean. In fact I started rewatching the Buffy series last week. It's not my favorite thing, but I wanted to rewatch Angel and figured that would be a good lead-in. Fanfic helps lesson the heartache for series that don't end as I'd like them to, so silver lining.
That link should walk you through it and land you in our Welcome channel, where you can introduce yourself and say you're new to Discord and many friendly Buffy fans will volunteer to help you learn the ropes.
I'm also there of course but my visits have been sporadic lately for the same reasons it takes me a while to respond to comments on LJ. I set the invite link to never expire in case you're also distracted by life, but let me know if it doesn't work or anything like that and I will come help!
Hey, I created a Discord account, but it's telling me this invite is either invalid or expired. Think you could invite me again? My username there is girlpire in case that makes it easier.
Hey! I've completed the next two chapters and the whole thing is plotted out, but I actually got entirely distracted by a new Angelus one-shot, so that'll be the thing I post first. Caught me completely by surprise, but it was fun to write. Roughly 10k words in the editing stage now. Then I'll be back to finishing up Touch.
I actually tested positive for Covid on Monday, so I'm sick at home right now and won't be going anywhere for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to get some writing done - if I can stay awake long enough, heh. I really hope your Thanksgiving was a bit better than mine.
Ugh, I had it early in the year, at least I assume I did. I had what I thought was just the flu for about ten days in late February /early March. A few weeks later I lost my sense of smell for a while, and this summer I had a large drop in blood pressure during June and July. I actually slowly took myself off my BP meds only to have to go back on them when my pressure started to go up again. Researches have included both these things as late symptoms of covid, ergo I think I had it. I thought I got off easy but now just hope I don't get hit a second time. Fingers crossed for the vaccine arriving fast! I can't wait to read your Angel one shot, and then Touch. New fic is exciting! I've started many stories because a nebulous sensation or image flashed in my head and I couldn't rest until I'd gotten it down on paper. I hope you have a light case and symptoms, but take it easy and lay low for a bit. Three members of my extended family actually died from it, though all were in their 80's and quite vulnerable. It's awful though, and it drives me crazy that some think it's no worse than the flu, or worse yet a hoax! Ugh!
