Warnings: Well, it's kind of dark. There's some hitting and other sorts of abuse. I mean, it's Angelus, right?

Review from the Forbidden Awards: --Why did I choose Broken? Because it shouldn't have worked. The pairing of Angelus and Fred should strike the reader as obscene, but girlpire has gorgeously crafted a piece which is simultaneously an AU and a study of characters often neglected. Her Angelus is absolutely evil, but girlpire has imbued him with traits (confusion, impatience, nebulous feeling) which render him almost human, instead of the caricature he becomes in most fanfiction and, frankly, in canon as well. Fred is too often treated as an afterthought, or is not adequately explored as a character in her own right. This Fred is broken, but not destroyed; she has desires which she neither understands nor can voice, but is still able to acknowledge. Broken is a masterful story of an obscure pairing which is more authentic and heartfelt than many canonical couplings.






Review from the Forbidden Awards: Broken by girlpire is what happens when a brilliant author takes an unconventional coupling to its extreme and effortlessly manages to enthrall the audience into welcoming and rooting for the wrongness. Fred is the most realized she has ever been - in either canon or fanfiction. Angelus is as multilayered as fans always believed him to be, but whose character was too often ignored for the purpose of the easy evil. Simply. The. Best.

sometimes, I come here and stare sadly, hoping for a new chapter to appear before my eyes <blinks with hope> it's so rare for this pairing to be done this well and dark to boot! I have really enjoyed this series so far

haha, thank you! i'm so sorry to make you wait this long for an update. but you'll be happy to hear that i've already written the first few pages of the next chapter. it should be up within a few days! (if it's not... smack me around a little bit. i sometimes need incentive.)

Can we start smacking you around yet?!! lol! ;P I keep hoping to see a new chappie of this posted, but alas I am always bitterly disappointed. *whines a bit here* :) Please, please update this fic soon! This is so well written. Fred/Angelus is so not the norm, yet you make it real. I love it, especially the way you write Angelus. God, I love that sexy demon *drools* So again *begs here* please update. This is just too good a story to not see where it ends...Plus you haven't gotten to the really good smut yet! *slurp* *grins*

never fear, this WILL be finished! but i'm sorry to have to tell you that it will still be quite a while before i start posting it again. i've already gotten more of this story written, but after the hell i went through trying to keep "friday" updated, i decided to completely finish writing my fics before i post them. it's really nerve-wracking trying to write and post each part as i go, you know? and this is turning out to be a really long story... on the plus side, though, this means when i do get finished with it, there will be very little wait time between chapters. so yay? :)

Well, you directed me here and now here I am. This story is wild and demented...and I love it. Sometimes I like the fluffy fics, and sometimes I want something dark and scary, and this is about as dark as I've ever seen, to be honest. This is such an odd pairing to think about, but you make it work so well. I'm so glad to see your treatment of both Fred and Angelus. They're both so layered and believable, it's awesome.

wild and demented, eh? thanks! *is proud* i'm going to go a teensy bit darker with this than even i'm comfortable with, but it's not going to be as dark as i've seen some people go. so i'd say you're safe. :) (i once read part of a story where angelus made dawn sew an electrical cable through her own chest and then turned the power on. i'm not going anywhere near that level.) i'm very glad that you enjoyed what i've posted so far of this story, and thank you so much for the feedback!

I come back here every so often when I start re-watching Angel and I'm always silently hoping that this story will have been updated since it is just too good.
